Process
- Voluntary Counselling/ Therapy may be helpful for individuals who experience stress associated with family court processes and outcomes. Counselling may be voluntary; however, the Court may require a treatment summary report confirming attendance in therapy, goals for therapy, insights from therapy and any relevant diagnosis.
- Reportable Counselling/ Therapy may be helpful for individuals who have been instructed to attend counselling as part of Interim or Final Orders. The Order may instruct an adult to attend for a certain number of sessions, or to attend to address specific concerns which have an impact on meeting the child/ren’s needs. The Court may require a treatment summary report, sessional notes, or clinical file notes detailing attendance in therapy, goals for therapy, insights from therapy and any relevant diagnosis.
Fees – $300 per 50-minute session
- The fee for a 50-minute therapy session is $300, below the fee recommended by the Australian Psychological Society (APS)and the Australian Association of Psychologists (AAPI) Fees Flyer pdf (AAPI. https://www.aapi.org.au/Web/Web/About-AAPi/News/Articles/2025/May/25-26Recommended-Fees-Guide.aspx). Medicare will reimburse $98 per session for 10 sessions per year, if you obtain a GP referral for a Mental Health Care Plan.
- The fees for completing a treatment summary report or clinical file copy vary depending on the number of sessions and the type of therapy provided. The fees are charged at an hourly rate of $300 per hour, as recommended by the AAPI Detailed Recommended Fee Schedule.
- A full cancellation fee of $300 will be charged if less than 48 hours of notice is provided to change or cancel an appointment. Medicare do not cover late change/ cancellation fees.
